This video provides evidence that you don't actually need those prongs underneath you in order to rip. Legendary surf scribe and enigmatic surfer in his own right, Derek Hynd, has dedicated the better part of two years to riding nothing but skeg-less crafts of varying shapes and sizes. In this clip DH blows minds with his control and subtle slip in the powerfully refracting lines of Jefferys Bay point, South Africa. While the argument rages on – boundary pushes V art house fags – for many pro-clean-sheet enthusiasts, the proof is in the pudding. You decide.

“Shot live from the audience at the 2010 Noosa Festival of Surfing, this film footage (shot by Jon Frank at Jeffrey’s Bay, South Africa) features Derek Hynd surfing to the live musical accompaniment of violinist and current leader of the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Richard Tognetti, and his two mates – you can see Richard to the left of the screen next to a fellow violinist, and the xylophonist to the right. This video was captured by Third Coast Surf Shop Owner and Great Lakes surfer Ryan Gerard, who humbly sat transfixed in his seat.”

DEREK HYND & THE WEIRD FINLESS BOARD
